“One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.”  —  Malala Yousafzai

Teaching English language brings joy and satisfaction to many teachers and students all around the world. There are over 1,000,000,000 people currently learning English, and the ELT industry is growing at a rapid pace. There are schools and teaching opportunities in every continent, and online too working either independently or with an organisation or a website that connects teachers with learners.

Although there are some very progressive and professional institutions, there are also plenty of others that are less committed to quality and their recruitment requirement is simply ‘two feet and a heartbeat’. I believe it is in the interest of English teachers everywhere to collaboratively seek to improve the quality of what we do while finding ways to ensure talented and dedicated English teachers and the field of ELT are given the consideration they deserve.

By continually learning, improving, and sharing ideas about what we do and how we do it, we create and perpetuate a virtuous cycle within the profession that helps us to be the best teachers we can be, and to elevate the standing of English-language teaching worldwide. Education is both our tool and our goal.
